Razed by Rebels is a cinematic alternative/industrial rock project led by Austin, Texas-based creative Jason Winfield. Fusing heavy, synth-driven electronic textures with brooding, emotional alt-rock, the project acts as a boundary-pushing creative space where sound and visual storytelling collide.
The roots of the project trace back to their debut four-track EP, Dawn, released in 2018. The EP was accompanied by the award-winning music video for "A New Generation," which swept the indie festival circuit with 57 official selections and 27 award nods spanning best music video, director, original song, and production design. This early success set the blueprint for the project's signature style: blending real-world human struggles with highly imaginative, sci-fi-laced narratives.
Building on that momentum, Razed by Rebels expanded into a full-length cinematic experience with their album Broken Paradigm. Recorded across three prominent Texas studios —Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio, Orb Recording Studios, and The Finishing School in Austin—the album features a roster of talented local guest vocalists, including Alexandra Ayoob, Alva Sim, and Hope Irish. Across its nine tracks, Broken Paradigm takes listeners on a theatrical, dystopian voyage. The music blends aggressive guitar riffs, pulsing industrial rhythms, and soaring, melancholic vocals. Critics frequently compare their sweeping, atmospheric sound to a collision between Nine Inch Nails, Muse, and System of a Down.
Rather than functioning as a traditional static band, Razed by Rebels operates as a dynamic creative collective. By bringing together diverse engineers, musicians, and artists, Jason crafts a dark, theatrical atmosphere that feels as though it was pulled directly from a movie score. The lyrical content digs deep into the human condition, exploring themes of resilience, identity, internal conflict, and the fallout of standing by one's convictions.
With Broken Paradigm establishing a new benchmark for their sound, Razed by Rebels remains an immersive independent force. By bridging the gap between music and high-impact visual media, the project continues to deliver a uniquely captivating listening experience that defies easy categorization.
